I believe in the power of our words to shape our world. Whatever we think about and speak about becomes our experience in the outer world. "Your Word is Your Wand" is a book by one of my favorite truth authors, Florence Scovel Shinn. I keep her Wisdom collection book on my nightstand. "The Game of Life and How to Play It" is also in that collection! A few years back I was inspired to come up with the ultimate affirmation. The one I came up with pretty much applies to EVERYTHING! And everyone who gets wind ...
A Heart Connection in South Central
One of my greatest joys is sharing my positive music with children. I LOVE sharing empowering messages with kids who may or may not have "gotten the memo" that they are a great light in the world. After having the privilege of performing with the 5th Grade Chorus from Manchester Elementary School (in South Central Los Angeles) at the Universal Sheraton in Hollywood for the Nexxus Conference Luncheon held annually by ICAN (The Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect), they invited me to their school to perform with them at their Christmas concert! I had spent some time rehearsing with ...
If The Shoe Fits… Walk the Cat Walk!
My daughter sees me in my "Plain Jane" persona 99% of the time. AND as a performer my whole life, it wasn't until the last decade that I decided I was pretty without any make-up on at all. A huge deal if you are in the "Biz". We get so used to seeing ourselves made up for stage that seeing our "natural selves" is a tough pill to swallow. I have raised my daughter to understand her natural beauty is... GORGEOUS! And I have grown to feel that same way about myself. But I still ...
This Thanksgiving week kicks off the HOLIDAY SEASON! The craziness and stress of it all can be overwhelming for me. Today I take a cue from a note from a friend that I should sing my song “When I Fell”. I wrote it for my husband AND about God. The first part is about my journey falling from my perch and from grace to falling in love with my husband and spirit. In our lives, it is all connected. Oh how grateful I am!
Running around like a chicken with your head cut off? I was! Do whatever you need to do to get it reattached! I did. Are you busy cheering everyone else on to their greatness and leaving yourself behind? I was. Trade the megaphone in baby. I did. Well not really. I will always be the ultimate cheerleader for the world. We can all live in our greatness. Turns out I have to lead by example. Huh. Who knew? Wrap it up in a bow people!
I’ve been battling those nasty pesky negative voices in my head that tell me things that keep me stuck. Lately I’ve been winning. But some days are better than others. My ego wants to keep me in fear and my intellect is trying to run the whole show! When in that negative space, we attract actual people who speak that same message. Once we realize that truth, we can take action and surround ourselves only with people who support us fully. That is quite helpful! AND we need to do a “check” on what we say to other people in that regard. Good Witch or Bad Witch? Which Witch we choose to be and which Witches we hang out with is totally up to us. I choose the good ones.
The first step in the fight against BULLYING is to TALK to our kids. We as parents are responsible for how they show up in the world and how they feel about themselves and others. If you can’t figure out just HOW to do that, ask for help. You can “phone a friend” or “hand it over” to a higher power. Whatever works for us we MUST DO. Children are dying and we are ALL RESPONSIBLE.
We all need to hear how amazing we are. Even if you think people know because you think they SHOULD know how talented or special they are. The act of telling them is an affirmation of “being loved”. Consider those days when you are on the verge of throwing in the towel. Hearing that you are closer than you think, could make the difference between your “break through” and your “break down”. At the end of the day it is “all about the love”. “Your comment is your Karma” as a dear friend of mine said. Pass it on! Pay it forward! Look for the beauty and goodness and share your applause OUT LOUD! If you can’t do that, then please pass out warm cookies. People like that too.
Being born with a big dream doesn’t always seem fair. Especially when you’re ME and can’t figure out HOW to find your way back to it when it got lost in the shuffle of your life! Add to that the CRAZY of putting too much weight on what other people think or tell you about what you should or could be doing! I had an epiphany! It was that my music is the most important thing to me. AND that until I totally own it and find my success there, I simply won’t be truly happy. There. I said it. Whoa! Music is one of those “impossible” dreams. Right? The truth is that I have a whole support system of LOVE in my life! I can LET this happen! I no longer live in a space of uncertainty. My brain just has to catch up with my reality. I am a warrior! I fight for what I want and who I am! You totally want ME in your corner! Because WE WILL GET THERE! Now to give that gift to myself. Now GO! Be FABULOUS!
It’s my BIRTHDAY WEEK! Woo Hoo! It is only a “WOO HOO” because I am living my life in full expression! I am an artist. I am a very serious PASSIONATE human being. I am also CRAZY MENTAL, creatively centered and HUMAN to a fault! And I “keep it honest”, to quote one of my favorite newsy people. I am celebrating this year because I am finally allowing ALL of my gifts OUT TO PLAY for all to see. For those of you who are out of the loop or are IN the LOOP and don’t know it, LOL, here is the Webster’s Definition of CODEPENDENCY! codependency |ˌkōdəˈpendənsē| noun – excessive emotional or psychological reliance on a partner, typically a partner who requires support due to an illness or addiction. Thank you so much for joining me! Thank you for sharing this fun, funny, loopy, wicky wacky journey that is LIFE!
A trip to the Pediatrician with my 11 year old daughter was where I found the “message” this week. It is OK to KICK AND SCREAM when getting a shot! (or doing any task that you are putting off.) It is those tasks that HAVE to be done before anything else can happen or you can move forward. Go ahead! Kick and Scream! But DO it and Get it DONE! And have a nice day.
You can find all of my music HERE!
“Take a Stand” is from my Something Sacred Here Album.
Can’t figure out WHAT is going on? WHAT is the big deal? WHAT are you supposed to do next? Try listening to the advice you give OTHER PEOPLE! Oh my HUMANITY! I’ve got GREAT advice for YOU in this piano chat. Now PAY ATTENTION!
I’ve not been JUST a TAD BIT OFF my game in the last couple of weeks. And some would say “OFF MY NUT”! But today I think I may have “course corrected” to WHERE I need to be. Having a daughter who spouts random sage wisdom like a savant is TOTALLY ROCKIN’! AND connecting with people of like mind who are sent almost like angels to remind you WHY you are passionate about your purpose is EPIC! Kristin Schmidt, author of “Bring Pretty Back” was a total “God Send” this week. She reminded me that “everything I need is right in front of me”. Gosh I should listen to the wisdom in the songs I write more often. Tee hee. Apparently my daughter IS listening.
